Summitry ("the app," "we," "us") is a peak-bagging and hike-tracking app
for Android. This policy explains what information the app collects,
how it's used, and the choices you have. Summitry is developed and
operated by an independent developer, not a company.
Information we collect
Account information
Email address and password (if you sign up directly), or your name, email, and profile photo (if you sign in with Google).
A display name you choose, and optional profile photo, "flair" color/title, and Premium status.
Location data
Precise (GPS) location while you are actively recording a hike, so the app can verify summit completions and draw your route on the map.
Background location access is used only while a hike recording is in progress, so tracking continues if you lock your phone or switch apps — it is not used to track your location at any other time.
Health & fitness data
With your permission, Summitry can read workout/exercise sessions and GPS routes from Android Health Connect (e.g. hikes recorded by Garmin Connect, Strava, or Samsung Health) to match them against peaks you may have completed.
With your permission, Summitry can also write hikes you record inside the app back to Health Connect, so other connected apps can see them.
Distance, calorie, and step data may be read from Health Connect as a technical side effect of reading workout data, but the app does not use, store, or display this data itself.
Photos and files you add
Photos you attach to a hike or your profile (up to 5 per hike, 1 profile photo).
GPX track files you import, or that are generated when you record a hike with live GPS tracking.
Content you create
Notes, dates, and completion status for peaks you log.
A self-curated "Bucket List" of peaks you plan to climb.
How we use this information
To operate core features: verifying summit completions via GPS, displaying your progress, badges, and achievements, and building shareable summary cards and CSV exports that you choose to generate.
To power leaderboards and a public activity feed — only for accounts with a public profile (the default; you can switch to private at any time in Settings).
To keep the app working reliably (e.g. diagnosing crashes) and to prevent abuse.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising. Summitry does not display third-party ads.
Who we share information with
Service

Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore, Cloud Storage, Cloud Functions)
Stores your account data, hike logs, photos, and GPX files, and powers sign-in and leaderboards.
Google Sign-In
Optional alternative to an email/password account.
Android Health Connect
Optional two-way sync of workout data with your consent.
OpenStreetMap
Loads anonymous map tiles to render your route on a share card. No account data is sent to OpenStreetMap.
Other Summitry users can see your display name, profile photo, flair,
badges, and leaderboard stats only if your profile is set to public.
Your notes, private bucket list, and exact hike details beyond what's
shown on your profile are never shared with other users.
Your choices
Make your profile private at any time from Settings — this removes you from leaderboards and hides your profile from other accounts.
Export your data — Premium accounts can export their full hike history as a CSV file at any time from the Profile tab.
Delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete Account, or via our account deletion request page if you no longer have the app installed. This permanently deletes your peak logs, photos, badges, and profile from our systems.
Revoke permissions (location, Health Connect, notifications) at any time in your device's system settings — the app will simply lose the features that depend on them.
Data retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account exists, so the
app can show your ongoing progress. If you delete your account, your
data is permanently removed rather than anonymized or archived.
Children's privacy
Summitry is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly
collect personal information from children under 13.
Security
Your data is protected by Firebase Authentication and server-side
security rules that restrict who can read or write it. No method of
transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we take reasonable steps to
protect your information.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app changes. We'll update the "Last
updated" date above when we do. Continued use of the app after a change
means you accept the updated policy.
